Older Fitzrovia Newsletter October 2013

The paperwork is nearly ready! We’ll be moving to 5a Goodge Place W1T 4SD very soon, date as yet not set, but probably mid-October now. When we do finally go however we’ll be just around the corner.

Next week I will be distributing a survey for an end-of-grant report we have to give to the Big Lottery, who have been funding our programmes for the last 3 years. Please fill it out and turn it in at the Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Centre; Olive Leonard will also be phoning people 7-14 Oct to get an independent picture of how you think the programme went. I’ll be staying on running a reduced number of activities for at least the next few months, as you’ll see below.

Time to Sing will carry on for at least another two months at Fitzrovia Court. No experience or skills necessary. Come have fun singing familiar songs with a friendly group of people!

Lunch on Mondays is available at the George and Dragon pub on the corner of Cleveland and Greenwell Sts from 12.30, at a discounted price of £3 for main meal only, drinks extra. This is through a kind donation from Sir Robert McAlpine, contractors on the Middlesex Hosp. site.

Massage/Reflexology is on Wednesdays, 1.30 – 3:30pm in Fitzrovia Court. This will also carry on for another two months. If you’re new to the programme or have been on it and haven’t had a massage for a while, do give me a call to make an appointment on 020 7580 4576.

Computer classes are now suspended pending further fundraising. Attia does do private tuition in this area, however. If you’re interested please phone him: 07415 823 397

We have some community preview tickets for the new British Museum exhibition Beyond El Dorado: Power & Gold in Ancient Colombia on Sunday, 13 October, for 3.10pm. If you’re interested please get in touch with me on 020 7580 4576. Space is limited! Also, if people are interested I can arrange a time to go on an Eye-Opener tour in November, which will be 40 minutes in a specific part of the museum.

petition started by nurses who trained at Middlesex Hospital, is asking for the development on the site to be called ‘Old Middlesex Square’. It is online at http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/westminster-council-renaming-the-new-development-in-mortimer-street-old-middlesex-square-3 Let me know if you don’t have access to the internet but want to sign this, I’m happy to help.

All Souls Clubhouse has a range of friendly exercise classes available. They also run two very useful services: Clubcare which includes visiting and other help, and a shopping trip available every fortnight on Thursday. The lunches on Wednesdays are also still going. If you’re interested in any of these, please call Cherry on 020 7255 9756.
