Older Fitzrovia Newsletter, May 2014

The new office we were negotiating for many months fell through at the last moment! So we are back looking for another place to go… Apologies for skipping April’s newsletter.

Ancient Lives – New Discoveries will have a community preview at the British Museum Sunday 18 May 2.50pm. Let me know if you would like to attend, I have free tickets for this.

Time to Sing is at Fitzrovia Court (24 Carburton St W1W 5AS) Mondays 11-12.30pm. No experience or skills necessary. Come have fun singing familiar songs with a friendly group of people! It will be running these dates: 28 April, 5, 12, 19 May (not 26 May’s bank holiday)

Lunch on Mondays is available at the George and Dragon pub on the corner of Cleveland and Greenwell Sts from 12.30, at a discounted price of £3 for main meal only, drinks extra. This is through a kind donation from Sir Robert MacAlpine, contractors on the Middlesex Hosp. site.

Keep Middlesex Hospital Chapel’s name! There are two petitions out about this issue, which arises from an attempt by site developers Exemplar to change the name to Pearson Hall. The campaign has gathered steam over the last few weeks with nearly 2700 signatures on two petitions. One is for Westminster residents, workers and students and goes directly to the Council:http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/middlesexhchapel the other is for everyone else who cares that this name not be erased from memory, and will go to WCC leader Philipa Roe: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/councillor-philippa-roe-preserve-the-name-middlesex-hospital-chapel If you haven’t already, please sign and spread the word!

Massage/Reflexology  The last application wasn’t successful but I’m still trying to get money for this. There is another application out now which we should hear about in mid-May. While we wait, Philomena is still coming in at the same time on Wednesdays, 1.30 – 3:30pm to Fitzrovia Court, but she’ll need to charge the full £17.50/half hour cost – if you’re interested please call her on 07931 502 029 to arrange an appointment. If we have good news in May we’ll be able to go back to offering it free.

All Souls Clubhouse has a range of friendly exercise classes available. They also run two very useful services: Clubcare which includes visiting and other help, and a shopping trip available every fortnight on Thursday. The lunches on Wednesdays are also still going. If you’re interested in any of these, please call the Clubhouse on 020 7255 9756.

I hope everyone had a good Easter!
