Older Fitzrovia Newsletter, June 2014

Our update about regular activities for older people in Fitzrovia, for the month of June 2014.

Massage/Reflexology  Our application to the Derwent London Community Funding Programme was successful! We’ll be able to restart our free sessions on Wednesdays, 1.30 – 3:30pm at Fitzrovia Court, 24 Carburton Street, W1W 5AS on June 4th. As before, I will be doing the schedule for the afternoons on Tuesdays, if you’re interested, please call me on 020 7580 4576.

Vikings: Life and Legend will have a 2nd community view at the British Museum Saturday 15 May 6.50pm. Let me know if you would like to attend, although tickets are very limited. I may not be able to promise pairs.

Time to Sing is on Mondays 11-12.30pm at Fitzrovia Court (24 Carburton St W1W 5AS). No experience or skills necessary. Come have fun singing familiar songs with a friendly group of people!

Lunch on Mondays is available at the George and Dragon pub on the corner of Cleveland and Greenwell Sts from 12.30, at a discounted price of £3 for main meal only, drinks extra. This is through a kind donation from Sir Robert MacAlpine, contractors on the Middlesex Hosp. site.

Keep Middlesex Hospital Chapel’s name! There are two petitions out about this issue, which arises from an attempt by site developers Exemplar to erase the memory of the hospital. The campaign has gathered steam over the last few weeks with nearly 3000 signatures on two petitions. One, – deadline 31 May – is for people who work, live and study in Westminster and goes directly to the Council:http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/middlesexhchapel/. The other is for everyone else who cares that this name not be erased from memory, and will go to WCC leader Philipa Roe: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/councillor-philippa-roe-preserve-the-name-middlesex-hospital-chapel – there is no deadline on this. If you haven’t already, please sign and spread the word!

All Souls Clubhouse has a range of friendly exercise classes available. They also run two very useful services: Clubcare which includes visiting and other help, and a shopping trip available every fortnight on Thursday. The lunches on Wednesdays are also still going. If you’re interested in any of these, please call the Clubhouse on 020 7255 9756.

Someday summer will come!
