Fitzrovia Festival, in celebration of the Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Association’s 40th anniversary, will be running from 3 to 27 June. There will be an exhibition and sale (see below) at the beginning of the month and in the last two weeks many talks, walks, and presentations about the rich history of both the FNA and Fitzrovia itself. There will be a full list of events in the Fitzrovia News published on 2 June, or you can see them online here: http://festival.fitzrovia.org.uk/events/

Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Art Exhibition and Auction will be running from Wednesday 3 June to Friday 12 June, to raise money for our community programmes. All artwork was handmade by women participating in the Cultural Art Project, some items inspired by (and displayed at) British Museum exhibitions, others for the Bangladeshi Melas, including some splendid quilted hangings made for the Queen’s Jubilee in 2002. We will be holding a silent auction of the larger items and some smaller ones at the Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Centre, viewing and bidding times will be weekday evenings 6-8pm. The auction will finish at 8pm Friday 12 June.

Both Defining Beauty: the Body in Ancient Greek Art and Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation will have Community Views at the British Museum on Saturday evening 27 June, the Greek exhibition at 6.20pm and the Australia exhibition at 7.30pm. We have only 10 free tickets for each exhibition, please get in touch with me if you are interested in going.

Lunch on Mondays is available at the George and Dragon pub on the corner of Cleveland and Greenwell Sts from 12.30, at a (higher) discounted price of £5 for a REGULAR MAIN MEAL ONLY, Specials and drinks extra. This is through the kind generosity of Paul the pub landlord who has carried on with this out of his own pocket.

Margaret Street Lunch Club for anyone over 60 will be every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at the WORD tearoom of the London Jesus Centre, 83 Margaret St, W1W 8LH. If anyone needs lift access as please enter through Reception in Marylebone Passage. 11:15am Lunchtime Talk (various speakers and topics covered), 12pm Lunch and Desert with Tea/Coffee for £3, 1pm finish. Further info: 020 7637 0600.

Massage/Reflexology is on Wednesdays, 2.00 – 3:00pm at Fitzrovia Court, 24 Carburton St W1W 5AS. This is restarting after we had a funding gap last month. I do the schedule for it on Tuesdays. If you’re interested, or haven’t had a repeat visit for a while, please call me on 020 7580 4576 and leave a message before then.

Time to Sing in its self-run format has been suspended due to lack of interest. I am still looking for funding to bring back Angela and get the group going again soon. There’s been a ray of hope on this front, hopefully we’ll have good news next month!
