A planning inspector has allowed an appeal against a refusal by Westminster City Council to grant planning permission for a mansard roof extension at 29 Riding House Street, Fitzrovia, London W1W 7DX.
The application Ref 16/06100/FULL, dated 29 June 2016, was refused by notice dated 22 August 2016.
The main issue was whether the proposed development would preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the East Marylebone Conservation Area (the CA).
In making the decision the inspector stated: “I acknowledge that the majority of buildings within the CA, including that at the appeal site, are identified in the CA Audit as being properties where roof extensions would not normally be acceptable. However, in this case … the proposed development would preserve the character and appearance of the CA.”
