Comment by Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Association: the above applications concern a proposal by the New College of the Humanities to refurbish the 2,132 square metre Boston House and deliver a new headquarters for the College. A public consultation was held last year ahead of the submission of two planning applications for a change of use (2019/3961/P & 2019/4256/L). Both these applications attracted a large number of objections from local residents, and the applications were subsequently withdrawn.
At a meeting held in May 2020 local residents were informed that NCH intends to submit an identical set of new applications but with an additional application to change the use of approximately 700 square metres of County House, which is to the rear in Conway Mews. The reason for this additional application is to address concerns raised by Camden’s planners about the loss of office space which would be against local planning policy. All other aspects of the planning application are the same.
