We are seeking trustees to support, lead and shape our proposed new advice service based in Cromer Street, Kings Cross.
The advice service would employ at least two staff members to provide housing, welfare and general advice. We anticipate that at least 60 percent of the people using the service would be from Camden and that 75 percent would be from the Bangladeshi or south Asian community.
We need local people from the London Borough of Camden to join our board of trustees to secure a quality service that meets the needs of residents in south Camden. This would be a free service and it would start no later than April 2020.
Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Association is a registered charity and a limited company. All trustees would also be company directors. The role is voluntary and unpaid. Trustees would be expected to attend at least four meetings a year. There is also the opportunity to volunteer more frequently by helping at the advice centre and taking on administration duties.
Our advice service has been running since 1975 and holds an AQS Quality Mark. The service specialises in language support in English, Bengali, Sylheti, Urdu and Hindi.
In the past year 2018/2019 we helped 282 clients with 419 separate cases win over £550,000 in benefits, reduced travel costs, reduced rent rises and reduced fuel debt and costs. We also helped many other people get repairs done by either their council, housing association or private landlord, and win access to the housing list when it had been refused.
