Guided walk: 6.30pm to 8.00pm, Wednesday 26 June 2013. Meet at LDG estate agents 39 Foley Street, W1W 7TP, for a guided walk led by local estate agent Laurence Glynne.
This is a tour of the narrow streets, houses and businesses and will give a unique insight into the Fitzrovia Estate, its ebb and flow and changing fortunes.
Laurence remembers coming to Fitzrovia in the late 1960s as a teenager with his father to visit the people in the rag trade in Great Titchfield Street. He got to know the neighbourhood very well and has witnessed the area’s ebb and flow and its changing fortunes.
Over a 25 year period Laurence has had the opportunity to step inside hundreds of buildings in Fitzrovia, many of them having original Georgian interiors, Victorian styling, and the modern flats and apartments that have reached for the sky in an otherwise low-rise district. Keenly interested in the buildings and streets he has a personal passion for the architecture of the 20s and 30s.
While walking around this interesting inner London district you can find out why property here has created so much interest over the last few years. Entry: £10. (All proceeds to Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Association, registered charity 1111649.) Note: this walk starts at LDG estate agents 39 Foley Street, London W1W 7TP.
Part of Fitzrovia Festival 2013.
