Response to Crossrail 2 consultation: Tottenham Court Road station

Below is our response to the Crossrail 2 consultation.

Our association is strongly opposed to the plans for a Crossrail 2 station entrance at Rathbone Place.

Our main objection is the direct loss of heritage assets within the Hanway Street Conservation Area (City of Westminster).

We are also concerned about pedestrian congestion in Rathbone Place from the Crossrail 2 station entrance as this is a narrow street of 18C form.

We have previously raised concerns about the inevitable noise and disruption from the demolition and building works. We have already endured Crossrail 1 and a number of other regeneration schemes near Rathbone Place. We are particularly concerned for the health and well-being of residents in Rathbone Street and Gresse Street.

Furthermore the proposed demolition of the corner of Rathbone Place and Oxford Street has now led to speculative property buying by developer Derwent London in the neighbouring Hanway Street. A number of Georgian buildings neighbouring the Rathbone Place site have been acquired and will likely be redeveloped in some form and threatening their heritage value.
